Ayurveda treats the individual patient and not the disease. We believe that the environment in which the disease manifests needs to be corrected to enable correction of the disease.
It is with the above premise that Ayurveda approaches the treatment of disease. Conditions relating to the neuro-musculo-skeletal system, gastro-intestinal system, endocrine system, respiratory system, circulatory system and reproductive system are all addressed keeping the same principle in mind. Some of the conditions that are commonly addressed through Ayurveda include rheumatoid arthritis, osteo arthritis, migraine, spinal cord problems, metabolic disorders like obesity and diabetes, hormonal disorders, stress and even chronic conditions relating to the brain, heart, lungs, kidneys and liver.
The approach towards management of any of these conditions includes –
- Detailed consultation with the Ayurveda physician to enable proper understanding based on the principles of Ayurveda
- Admission for periods ranging from 3-8 weeks depending on the particular patient and the condition
- Use of internal herbs, external body treatments (abhyanga, shirodhara, pizhichil, navarakizhi etc.), detoxification procedures (panchakarma) where required, simple vegetarian diet food, lots of physical and mental rest; and other procedures like pranayama, meditation etc. based on requirement
- Finally follow up treatment back home for periods ranging from 3-12 months or more depending on need
